Event 6 Friday 16 January 10.00 am Knocklofty Reserve.

The venues represent a mix of terrains as described below:

EVENT 1: Tuesday 13 January 4.00 pm – University of Tasmania

2 km from central Hobart.   Classic sprint orienteering through the grounds of the main University of Tasmania campus in Sandy Bay including part of the adjoining Hutchins School.  After the event head out to one of Hobart’s great restaurants.

EVENT 2: Wednesday 14 January 9.00 am – Hobart College

This is actually predominantly a bush map with the Hobart College buildings taking up only about 10% of the area.  The rest is bushland with plenty of features to test visiting orienteers’ skills.  Lovely views of Mt Wellington and a short drive afterwards to the Mt Nelson signal station and tea rooms.

EVENT 3:  Wednesday 14 January 4.00 pm – Seven Mile Beach

20 Km from Hobart, adjacent to Hobart Airport and the famous Pittwater Dunes map.  Complex sand dune and pine forest terrain.  If it’s a hot day stay on for a swim at the beach.

EVENT 4:  Thursday 15 January 9.00 am – Salamanca Place, Hobart

Salamanca Place and Battery Point, the historic precinct of central Hobart.  Parks and Gardens, historic alleyways and the Hobart waterfront including Constitution and Fishermen’s docks.  With the area crowded with visiting tourists this event should be a hoot!

EVENT 5: Thursday 15 January 4.00 pm – Risdon Brook Dam

10 Km from Hobart.  A scenic reserve with bush, sandstone features and lots of wildlife.  One of Hobart’s iconic orienteering maps – it has been used for over 40 years and still presents challenges.

EVENT 6: Friday 16 January 9.00 am – Knocklofty Reserve

Only 3 km from central Hobart. This reserve contains a large number of sandstone quarries from the 1800s with a network of modern day walking tracks.  Followed by a BBQ and awards presentations at the finish in parkland adjacent to Lansdowne Crescent Primary School.

The results for all 6 events go towards the final placegetters in each class. Prizes will be awarded at the BBQ following the final event at Knocklofty. There will be a ceremony each day to acknowledge that day’s placegetters.

Hobart Orienteers are offering billeted accommodation for visiting competitors.  While Hobart has excellent accommodation facilities, this is the busiest time of the year with the Sydney-Hobart yacht race having just finished and many accommodation venues are booked out well in advance.

So if you would like to stay with a family of orienteers in Hobart contact Sally Wayte at and Sally will try to match you to a local orienteering family.  As places are not unlimited get in early to secure a spot!
